from now on, I’m doing income reports

I have decided that this year, I am going to write income reports every month.  Honestly, I am kinda nervous about doing this.  However, I have decided to move forward on this for two reasons.  First, to keep myself motivated to surpass the previous month’s numbers.  And secondly, to keep an accurate record of my stats.  I have have always made money blogging.  However, I have never been consistent in tracking my income.  For a long time, I was just blogging.  I wasn’t focused on making money and I didn’t know how.  I was just kinda doing it for fun.  But now that this is an actual business and provides income for me, I decided to collect results on a monthly basis to help me (and others) learn and grow.

Most importantly, I have decided to create income reports to inspire other bloggers and show that it is possible to have a successful and profitable blog.  So many people come to me and ask how they can make money blogging.  So I thought it would be a good idea to show tangible results.

Pinterest Power

I had a 55% increase in traffic from December 2017 to January 2018!  Here is a chart of my blog traffic:

pageviews

Why the huge jump in traffic to my blog?  Pinterest!  I had heard from other bloggers, that Pinterest was a great way to drive traffic to your blog.  And I’m always on Pinterest looking at dresses and stuff.  But I was intrigued at how other bloggers used Pinterest to make money and bring massive amounts of traffic to their blog.  I wanted to know how and learn more about this.

After doing some research about Pinterest and how it can boost a blogger’s business, I decided to give it a try.  But there were a few issues I had to deal with first.  I really didn’t know how to use Pinterest for a blogging  business.  I had to figure out pinning, boards, repins and all that sort of stuff.  And that took me a minute.  I purchased an online training course I came across called Pinterest Traffic Avalanche.  This Pinterest course is AMAZING and if you want to learn more about it click here.

After completing the course, I started working on my Pinterest account.  Immediately, I converted my Pinterest account from a personal to a business account.  Then I began to update my pins and boards to make them attractive and repinnable to others.  Next, I went to work on my blog.  I began to update the contents of my blog posts, turn my pins into rich pins and create pinnable Pinterest images.  It took a lot of work to do this but I knew that Pinterest could help me in a big way.

Once I got my blog Pinterest ready, I started working on Pinterest itself.  Every day, I started pinning my pins on Pinterest and repinning other people’s pins.  Now I know this sounds like it took a lot of my time but it didn’t.  That’s because I used Tailwind and BoardBooster to automate and schedule when I pin things on Pinterest.  Once a month, for about 2 hours, I schedule all my pins for the month and that’s it!  I leave Pinterest alone and watch the huge amounts of traffic it brings to my blog.

I started posting consistently to Pinterest in mid-December and to my surprise, approximately 70% of my traffic came from Pinterest.  Only a combined 1% came from Facebook and Linkedin.  Now that’s interesting to me for a few reasons.  One, you hear so much about Facebook and I spend a lot of time there doing Live trainings and interacting.  However, it doesn’t have any impact on the traffic to my blog.  In fact, despite the fact that I am on Facebook everyday promoting, not a lot of people from Facebook are coming to my blog.  That is probably because all of the interaction is on Facebook itself.

Take a look and see for yourself…

Google Analytics

Second, I noticed that the traffic that comes from Pinterest spends more time on my blog reading it.  On average, my blog visitors spend 2 mins and 32 seconds on my blog each visit.  While my pinterest readers spend 3 minutes and 30 seconds on my blog each visit.  And friend, that’s the goal.  When readers come to your blog, you want them to stay there a long time, reading your blog posts and getting to know you.  So, I was excited to see that the people who come to my blog from Pinterest spend more time reading my blog.

Google Analytics on Pinterest

I was so excited to see proof that my organic search increased 107%!  Organic search is the traffic that comes to your blog from search engines like google.com and bing.com.  I talk all the time about how Google drives a lot of traffic to blogs.  It’s the number #2 site in the world and we as bloggers have to figure out how to use Google to send more traffic to our blog so we can get more readers and customers.  Therefore, I spent a lot of time reworking my blog posts to make my blog posts SEO friendly and now I see the results are starting to pay off.  I feel good that when people search about blogging on Google, my blog posts are coming up high in the results more and more.

I knew that Pinterest could help bring more traffic to my blog in a big way.   The results I am seeing for January 2018 are encouraging.   I am going to continue using Tailwind and BoardBooster on Pinterest.  Now, both Tailwind and BoardBooster are services that I pay for.  However, I was able to try them out for free to see how they worked and if I liked them before I decided to pay for their service.  If you would like to try Tailwind and/or BoardBooster for yourself, you can click on the links below to activate your free trial.  I do want to disclose that those links are affiliate links and if you do decide to pay for Tailwind and/or BoardBooster, I may receive a small percentage of the transaction.  But it doesn’t cost you anything extra if you use the service.

BoardBooster – Free Trail of 100 pins

Tailwind – This free trial has no time limit.  You can schedule up to 100 pins on Pinterest.

But Pinterest has opened the door to another revenue stream for me.  Several other bloggers liked my Pinterest pins and have asked me to create pins for their blogs.  That has been so unexpected but really, really fun.  I enjoy being creative and designing Pinterest pins for other bloggers.  If you want to learn more about my Pinterest side-hustle, click HERE.

The first of many income reports

I have really enjoyed writing this income report.  I have run from writing my own income reports for so long.  But I really enjoy reading income reports from other bloggers.  But this process has been so helpful to me.  Reviewing my income, Google analytics and other statistics has really been eye-opening for me.  I can clearly see what is working (pinning on Pinterest!) and what I need to work on.  I am already looking forward to next month’s income report to see what changes and (hopefully) improvements occur.

If you’ve read this far down in my blog post, I’ve got a sneaky suspicion that you may be interested in blogging too.  Is that correct?  Have you been going back and forth for months (or maybe even years!), debating on whether or not to start a blog?    If you are interested in getting a blog started.   I can help you do it quickly and cheaply.   I have created a step-by-step tutorial on how to set up a WordPress blog in about 5 minutes.  And for a limited time, you can get web hosting service from Blue Host for as low as $3.95 a month, which is ridiculously cheap.  As an added bonus, you’ll get a free domain name ($15 value) through my Blue Host link if you purchase at least one year of web hosting service.    Click HERE to get started.
