Can I Really Make Money Blogging?
If you follow other blogs and bloggers, everyone is always talking about their income reports and how they make so much money blogging. It can seem like other bloggers make money so easily and have figured out the “secret sauce” on how to make a full-time income blogging. But for you, it’s a struggle. You are new to blogging and have no idea how to even start the process.
The number one question I get asked is how do you make money blogging or can you make money blogging. Everyone wants to make money blogging but a lot of people don’t know how to do it or what to do first. They know they should start a blog but should they create a product or a course? Sell services?
If you’ve been blogging for years, have thousands of email subscribers and get tons of traffic to your blog every month, it’s easy to make lots of money blogging. But if you are just getting your feet wet in this blogging game, it’s hard to make a buck online.
But, Before we begin…
But before we get all into this money-making talk, I want to be sure that you actually have a blog up and running. Cuz you gotta have a blog if you want to blog for money, right? If you don’t have a blog already set up, no worries! I have written a quick tutorial that will show you how to set up your blog in 6 simple steps. And for a limited time, you can get web hosting service from Blue Host for as low as $3.95 a month, which is ridiculously cheap. And as an added bonus, you’ll get a free domain name ($15 value) through my Blue Host link if you purchase at least one year of web hosting service. So hurry and get your blog set up so you can move on to learning how to monetize your blog.
Now, that your blog is all set up, I am going to show you 5 methods to realistically make money off your blog. However, I want you to proceed with caution. Since you are just starting out with this whole “making money off your blog thang” (and yes, I meant to write “thang” and not “thing”!), I don’t want you to go crazy trying to offer all 5 methods right off the bat. What I want you to do is pick one method to implement. Once you start making consistent income from that method, try replicating that method or move on to implementing another method. Do not go overboard trying to implement all 5 of these methods at once when you’re just starting out. Okay, got it? Cool! Let’s get started…
Make Money Blogging for Beginners Method #1 – Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is an ideal way for bloggers to make money because it requires little to no work on their part. It’s perfect for every type of blog or niche. And it doesn’t matter if you just started blogging or have been running a successful blog for years, affiliate marketing can work for you. When I first started blogging, I didn’t really understand affiliate marketing. I thought it was kinda skeevy and sleazy. I wanted no parts of affiliate marketing and thought it was a waste of time. But no more. Over the years, my mentors impressed upon me the importance of working smarter and not harder. And who can deny the massive of amount of money mommy bloggers are bringing into their home each month thanks to affiliate marketing? Who doesn’t want to make money while they sleep?
Many bloggers make money using affiliate marketing. Some bloggers make their entire living selling affiliate products. A popular financial blogger, Michelle Schroeder-Gardner, makes over $50,000 each month in affiliate income. Yes, you read that correctly. Imagine making over $50,000 each month in affiliate income. Last year, Michelle made over $1.5 million in affiliate income. Michelle has truly mastered the art of affiliate marketing and literally makes money while she sleeps!
Michelle has been blogging for years and her affiliate income has increased over time. So, making five figures a month in affiliate income may not be realistic for you to achieve right now. However, many bloggers start out earning $60 or $70 of affiliate income a month and then grow from there. If you want to learn exactly how Michelle earns $50,000 a month in affiliate income, check out her online course “Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing“. She has taught over 3,000 students in this course which I personally have taken. This affiliate marketing course teaches you everything you need to know to make money through affiliate marketing from your blog. Click HERE to enroll today.
Make Money Blogging for Beginners Method #2 – eBooks
No one can deny the power of a book. People love to read and it’s a quick way to make money. The #1 reason why eBooks are so effective at making money is because they are residual income. That means, an eBook can keep earning money as long as it’s available. It’s like selling music in the recording industry. Elvis, Michael Jackson and Prince continue to make millions of dollars annually selling music even though they are dead. This is because an artist creates a recording once, and it sells repeatedly for years to come. An eBook is the same type of medium. Once it is created, it can be sold over and over again. Who wants to make money while they sleep? I do! With an eBook, you can definitely do that.
But let’s be real here. You might want to sell an eBook on your blog but may be intimidated by the work involved to create it. Or you might not have the time or the energy to write an eBook that’s a hundred pages or more. Let me share with you a trick I learned from another blogger on how to easily create an eBook to sell. Here’s what you do…
Pick out 5-10 of your blog posts that can be grouped together, are a series or on one topic. Combine those blog posts in a document, add an introduction and a conclusion and boom! You’ve got your eBook. Price it at $15 or $20 and sell it on your blog. Because in all honesty, your eBook doesn’t have to be 200 pages, it can be 35 or 10 pages. What matters is if the content is meaningful and valuable to the reader. You may be thinking that your readers won’t buy your eBook if it’s a combination of your already published blog posts. And if they read your blog, they won’t buy your eBook. But yes, the will. Because it’s highly unlikely that someone will come to your blog and read 5 or 10 blog posts. Maybe they will read 1 or 2 blog posts, but not 5. Try this method and see if you can make a few sales.
Make Money Blogging for Beginners Method #3 – Consulting
Consulting is a great way to earn money. Since your blog positions you as an expert in your industry, expect individuals and businesses to contact you about helping improve their processes or production. I’ve done lots of consulting and it’s a wonderful thing because you can set your own terms of what you do and how you do it. Offer several different packages that range in time and monetary value. Then your customer can choose what package works best for their needs.
Make Money Blogging for Beginners Method #4 – Online Courses and/or Instructional Documents
This is my favorite way to make money online. If you have training or experience in a topic or field that others are trying to learn about, why not offer a training course online? The wonderful thing about online courses is that the classroom setting is location independent. People from all over the country or all over the world, can participate in a course. I teach online graduate courses in Information Technology. Subsequently, teaching ecourses is my day job and I really enjoy it.
There are several ways to teach courses online. Courses can be taught as live sessions or a self-study course. The advantage of a self-study course over a live course is that self-study courses are passive income. You set the course up once and leave it alone. Students pay for the course and complete it on their own without any interaction from you. Live online courses require the teacher to teach online on a certain day and time. The benefit of live courses is that students can interact with the teacher online. Students can still interact online, but this is normally done in a private forum like a private Facebook group created specifically for that course. People will pay several hundreds and even thousands of dollars for trainings and courses online. This is a great income stream to add to your business.
But you don’t have to create a course to make money teaching people. Because the truth is that if you want to make money teaching online courses, you have to find a steady stream of students willing to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars for your courses. And you can definitely do that but it’s not for the rookie blogger. But if you are just starting out, you still can make money teaching people.
Here’s a cool trick I do that I learned from another blogger. Create an instructional document teaching people how to do one, simple task. Then, price your document for $10 or less. For example, I have several instructional documents and they bring in consistent income. The trick is to make sure you are showing the readers how to do ONE thing. Then, you must make the price irresistible so it is a no-brainer to buy it. Trust me, you can make a consistent income selling instructional documents off your blog. If you can get 2 or 3 sales a day per instructional document, it starts to add up quickly.

Make Money Blogging for Beginners Method #5 – Coaching
A lot of my blogger friends coach or train their clients in one-on-one or group sessions. This is really easy money. Because once you get known for being an expert in something or doing something well, people will want you to coach them so they can do the same. That’s why blogging is so powerful. Just having a blog positions you as an expert in the eyes of others.
All you need to do is create a blog post or page that details your coaching services and rates. Group sessions can be done by phone. There are hundreds of free conference call services out there. Find a free one using Google and give out the phone number and access number to participants that have paid for group coaching. At a set date and time, hold your coaching session via conference each week or month and rake in the cash. One-on-one coaching sessions can be done on by conference call or via Skype.
When I worked with Redbook magazine for a fitness challenge, they set me up with celebrity trainer, Ramona Braganza. Ramona is amazing! She has trained the likes of Jessica Biel, Jessica Alba, Ashley Simpson, Scarlett Johannson, Kate Beckingsdale and more. I was so honored to work with her. But the thing that was so cool about her, was that we did our training sessions over Skype because she lives in Los Angeles. That makes sense, right? She’s out there training all the celebrities so she has to be where they are. But that doesn’t stop her from training other clients who don’t live in LA. So, coach your clients online via phone or Skype.
