Never in a million years did I think I would be a stay-at-home mom of three amazing girls with a blog.  But here I am doing both and I love it!  I wouldn’t trade my life for the world!  We all know how one becomes a mom (ha ha ha).  But let me share with you my journey of starting a mom blog and why YOU should start a mom blog, too!

After finishing up my doctorate (which was a grueling process) and having my first child, my hubby and I wanted to have another baby.  We didn’t see the point in me getting a full-time job. Plus, I wasn’t ready to put my baby in daycare all day.  As fate would have it, I did get pregnant again, with not one but two babies! Yes, we were having twins. Fortunately, I got offered a job teaching graduate courses online.  Even though it was not full time work, I was ecstatic that I would work at home and take care of my children.  But I was really worried about the loss of income.

the #1 REASON why you should start a mom blog:

Blogging Moms Make More Money Than Non-Blogging Moms

Let’s be honest, it’s expensive raising kids, right?  Formula, pull-ups, gymnastics and shoes ain’t cheap.  Can I get a witness?  The harsh reality was that my household was going from 2 full-time incomes to 1 full-time income and some change.  My husband was not worried but that was kinda scary to me.  So, I really wanted to get this blogging stuff down so I could contribute to the household income.  Is that your reason for starting a mom blog?

But there is hope because studies have shown that mommy bloggers bring home more money than mommies who don’t blog.  There are over 4 million mommy bloggers out there who make an average of $83,000 a year.  Some even make over 6 figures a year.  A lot of women out there are bringing tons of money into their household by blogging.  If they can do it, you can too.  In addition to the money, mommy bloggers can score free swag (clothes, products, trips, tickets to events, etc.) from business and companies in exchange for promotion.  Paid promotional opportunities are also available and occur when mommy bloggers get a check to write a social media and/or blog post promoting something.  Bloggers also make money appearing in online content, ads, magazines, commercials and more. So there are a lot of (fun) ways mommy bloggers can make additional income for their family.

Some bloggers make money selling affiliate products.  If you don’t know what affiliate products are, that’s when you sell another company’s product to your audience and you get a cut of the sale.  Lots of bloggers sell affiliate products or become affiliates for a company because it’s no work on their part.  All they have to do is blog about other people’s products and cash their checks when someone buys it.  Some bloggers make their entire living selling affiliate products.

One popular financial blogger, Michelle Schroeder-Gardner, “makes over $50,000 each month in affiliate income.  Yes, you read that correctly.   Michelle has been blogging for years and her affiliate income has increased over time.  So, making five figures a month in affiliate income may not be realistic for you to achieve right now.   However, many bloggers start out earning $60 or $70 of affiliate income a month and then grow from there.   If you want to learn exactly how Michelle earns $50,000 a month in affiliate income, check out her online course “Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing“.

the #2 REASON why you should start a mom blog:

You Can Work Less and Spend More Time With Your Family

If you are interested in working from home, living the “laptop lifestyle” or working location independent from anywhere in the world, then blogging is the way.  I don’t know of any other way to work less hours and have flexible hours than by having a blog.  Now, I’ll be honest with you.  A successful, profitable blog does not happen overnight.  But there are so many mom bloggers out there who after a year or so of blogging are making a full time income.  Some make so much money blogging that they have retired their husbands from their job.  If they can do it, you can too!

the #3 REASON why you should start a mom blog:

Because You Want To!

I am giving you permission to something for yourself.  We as moms are always giving and sacrificing for our family.  We do so much for others, it’s time to finally do something that you want to do.  Stop putting your dreams and goals on the back burner and go for it.  You’re worth it.  Now is the time to do something you’ve always wanted to accomplish.  So, let me ask you this important question…
