are you Thinking about starting a blog?

A few years ago, I was thinking about starting a blog.  At the time, I had a toddler and I just popped out my twins.  My days were consumed with taking care of my kids and home.  However, part of me wanted to do something I’d been dreaming about for a long time.  I wanted to start a blog so I could run a business online.  I wanted my blog to make money so I could contribute to the household income and provide for extras like ballet and gymnastics.

I had decided that I wanted to work from home for good. I couldn’t see myself putting my kids in daycare, trying to climb the corporate ladder or living in cubicle hell again.  I’d done that before and had absolutely no desire to go back to that.  So while I was home with my babies, I decided to use that time to start a blog.  Now was the time to step out on faith and act on those dreams I had been holding inside for so long.

If you too have the desire and have been thinking about starting a blog, I say do it!  There’s no better time that the present to follow your heart and take action on your goals.  And don’t worry, it’s really simple to start your blog.  If you’ve go about 20 minutes, follow the 2 steps below to start your blog today.

Step 1 –  Setup Blue Host

First, let’s get you set up with Blue Host, the web host provider that I recommend.  If you’re not sure what a web host provider is, lemme break it down for you.  To set up a blog, you will need to get web hosting service.  A web host gives you space on the internet to “house” your blog.  Let me give you an example.  There are millions of townhomes, houses, apartments, condos, etc. in every city.  But each living space has its own unique location or address.  The domain name is the address or location of that living space that identifies it from all the others.  Your blog is stored in the living space online.  But you need to find a web host to give you or rent that living space online that houses your blog.  The web host is the landlord who rents out or gives you a certain amount of space on the internet for your blog to live.  To sum it all up, the web host makes space available to house your blog on the internet and leases or rents that space to you.

There are two types of web hosting service: self-hosted and hosted services.   What is the difference?  Easy!  A self-hosted blog is one that you have to invest money in.  Not a lot but at the very least, you have to pay for your domain name, and web-hosting service.  Hosted service is free.  Blogs that use a hosted service have their own characteristics.  First, you will not have a unique domain name.  You will have the domain name of the hosted service you are using.  For example, offers free web hosting service to bloggers.  So, if you decide to use for your web hosting service, your domain name will look like this:

To further clarify the example, my blog domain name would look like this:

Many people ask me if they should self host or use a hosted service for their blog.  The decision is yours.  However, I would advise self-hosting your blog.  If you are serious about blogging and want to use it take your business or brand to the next level, you need to self-host your blog.  Perception is reality and your blog needs to be seen as professional as possible.  Therefore, I personally recommend using Blue Host to self-host your blog.  Their service is affordable and reliable.  Plus, their customer service is amazing.  Click here to get started with Blue Host.

What is WordPress and why do you need it on your blog?  Well, I’m glad you asked!  WordPress is the blogging software that I recommend for your blog.  Sure, there are other software you can use as your blogging software.  However, WordPress is definitely the easiest to use and most popular blogging software out there.

Now, when you first setup your website, it’s not a blog yet.  It is not a blog until you install blogging software on it.  So, all websites are not blogs but all blogs are websites.  Let me clarify this for you. is not a blog.  There are no blog posts on Google.  Google is a search engine only.  However, the New York Post site is a blog.  There are news stories (blog posts) on it that change throughout the day.  Therefore, a website is a blog once blogging software is installed on it.  Once WordPress is installed on your website, you are all set and ready to blog!

Now you are ready to install WordPress on your blog.  I hope I didn’t just lose you with this step.  You don’t have to be a computer whiz or tech savvy to do this.  Literally, all you have to do is click a button to set up WordPress.  Yes, it’s that easy.  So, just follow Step 6 in the video above and you’re all set.

If you finished steps one and two above, let me congratulate you.  The hardest part of making a decision to start a blog and setting it up is over.  I want you to stop what you’re doing right now and pat yourself on the back.  You set up your blog today and accomplished a goal   You started down the wonderful path of following your dreams.  Kudos to you!  But don’t stop here.  Nope!   This is just the beginning of a long, wonderful journey ahead of you.
